ह्या वेळच्या अंकासाठी मी, एफतिहिया सॅक्सोनी हिने लिहिलेल्या Tracing the Transgender Body: A Discussion on Confessions of the Fox (2018) by Jordy Rosenberg ह्या लेखाचा मराठी अनुवाद केला. हा अनुवाद करताना मला अनेक गोष्टी पहिल्यांदाच करण्याची संधी मिळाली. ट्रान्सजेंडर, बॉडी डिसमॉरफिया, जेंडर आयडेनटिटी अशा कित्येक नुसत्याच कानावर पडणार्‍या शब्दांचे अर्थ, त्यांना मराठीत असलेले प्रतिशब्द, त्या शब्दांचा योग्य वापर, अशा अनेक गोष्टी ह्या लेखाच्या निमित्ताने शिकायचा योग आला.
एफतिहियाने लिहिलेला मूळ इंग्रजी लेख मला समजायला थोडा अवघड गेला आणि तो ज्या पुस्तकावर लिहिला आहे ते पुस्तक मला नवीन होतं. अनुवाद करण्यासाठी मूळ लेखन अनुवादकाला समजायला हवं असं मला वाटतं, म्हणून मी ते पुस्तक शोधून जमेल तितकं वाचून काढलं. त्यामुळे एफतिहियाचे मुद्दे आणि तिने दिलेले संदर्भ व्यवस्थित कळाले आणि तिचा लेखही समजायला सोपा झाला. तसचं, माहिती असलेल्या गोष्टी, विषय आणि मतं ह्या सगळ्यांकडेच वेगळ्या दृष्टिकोनातून बघायला लावणाराही ठरला. बिलोरीच्या गेल्या 4 अंकांसाठी मी बऱ्याच लेखांचे अनुवाद केले, पण एवढा अभ्यास करायला लावणारा हा पहिलाच लेख होता!
बिलोरी जर्नल मध्ये विविध विषयांवरचे लेख प्रसिद्ध करण्यासाठी आमची टीम कायमच प्रयत्नशील असते. ह्या त्यांच्या प्रयत्नातून वाचकांना वेगळं काहीतरी वाचायची संधी मिळावी हा हेतु असतो. प्रत्येक अंकासाठीचे लेख निवडणाऱ्या आमच्या संपादकांची जिद्द आणि कष्ट मला खरंच कौतुकास्पद वाटतात.
सरतेशेवटी, बिलोरी जर्नलसाठी लेख पाठवणार्‍या एफतिहिया सारख्या अनेक लेखकांचे, अनुवादक म्हणून अशा विविध, दर्जेदार लेखनाशी माझी ओळख करून दिल्याबद्दल आणि ते तुमच्या, अर्थात वाचकांपर्यंत, पोहोचवण्याची संधी दिल्याबद्दल मनापासून आभार.

This issue is purely a labour of love. As work, life and stress of living in a crumbling world was pulling everyone in different directions, we kept coming back to the oasis that was Bilori journal. I want to acknowledge the fact that this team is made of individuals scattered across the globe, leading vastly different lives and most have never met other team members outside of our weekly online meetings. We come together out of need to create a space for expressions, reflections and translations that speaks to the larger idea of change.
‘Tracing the Transgender Body: A Discussion on Confessions of the Fox (2018) by Jordy Rosenberg’ by Eftihia Saxoni and ‘Reading Dur e Aziz Amna’s American Fever in Northampton, MA’ by Vika Mujumdar both touch upon the change and transformation individuals go through in their lives. Interview of this issue features Ashutosh Potdar who is well known for translating works in different literary genres but also editing translations. We have tried to unpack translation editing as an autonomous area in the field of translation.
Translating Vika’s essay was an enriching experience, and I also had the opportunity to fill in the role of editor in chief for this issue. I’m immensely grateful to all my team members for the help and support they offered during this journey.
